applyChina was founded to help international students approach university applications to Mainland China with greater clarity, structure, and confidence.

Our consultants bring first-hand experience of studying, applying to, and working within leading universities in Asia. This allows us to support applicants with a clear understanding of how decisions are made - not just in theory, but in practice.

Our founder, James, has spent close to a decade living and studying in Asia. He completed his undergraduate degree at New York University Shanghai and later pursued a master’s degree in economics at Peking University’s Yenching Academy, receiving full scholarships for both programmes. This provides direct insight into the admissions and scholarship process from an applicant’s perspective. He has also undertaken intensive Chinese language study through the Princeton in Beijing programme at Beijing Normal University, and holds HSK V and HSKK Advanced qualifications.

Our consultants have worked in university admissions at leading institutions in Asia, gaining direct experience in how applications are evaluated, how candidates are assessed, and how scholarship decisions are made.

This combination of experience means we understand both sides of the process, both the uncertainty applicants face, and the criteria used by admissions teams. From selecting the right universities to developing a clear and compelling application narrative, the focus is on helping each applicant present themselves in a structured and effective way.
